SCBWI- National Society for Children's Books Writers and Illustrators organizes writers' and illustrators' conferences, luncheons, book talks, and more, publishes a monthly bulletin, announces scholarships and contests, and in many other ways supports children's writers and illustrators. Check them out here. CCBC Children's Cooperative Book Center, based in Madison, Wisconsin, was created to further the cause of children's books, and does so by educating the public about children's literature.  Their website features an extensive list of writers with a Wisconsin connection, and is a good place to look for writers and illustraters interested in doing school visits.
